This giraffe design is my first mixed media piece, in that it involves colored pencil as well as floss. It includes two-, three-, four- and six-strand stitching. Back, split, outline, satin, French knot, and Portuguese knotted stem stitch were used in the creation. It is a commission piece, the original design was a German sparkling water advertisement from early last century. The background and giraffe's white were filled in with art-grade colored pencils, the entire piece is in an 8 x 10" frame to give a sense of scale. It was recently delivered to the intended recipient and I was given to know they liked it - which is always a plus!
Coming soon - a clothing "tattoo" on the back panel of a work jacket, followed by some interesting variations on a theme!
